Create customized links campaigns to measure traffic sources

In this article we will explain how to create customized links campaigns for the promotion, which will allow you to measure the origin of the users who take part in the promotion. This way you will be able to know whether if an entrant comes from a Facebook Ads campaign, through the publication of the promotion on the wall, from the newsletter, by means of the organic virality of the participants or whether they come from any other means of communication used.

We will start by explaining how to obtain the promotion main link, then we will see how to create a customized link campaign for this promotion link and, finally, we will see the link campaigns are already predefined by the Easypromos application.

1. How to obtain the promotion main link

All promotions created with Easypromos have a unique link, which is the link that needs to be used to communicate and spread the promotion. This link is generated as soon as the promotion is created and can be obtained even when the promotion is not active and is saved as a draft. This link can be obtained from the promotion management page, on the header:

Note: The promotion main link is 100% compatible with mobile devices.

2. How to create customized links to the promotion in order to measure traffic sources

The promotion main link needs to be used to communicate and spread the promotion: when publishing the promotion on a Facebook page biography, when sharing on Twitter, when sending a Newsletter, when creating a Facebook Ads campaign, or when creating a banner on a website.

When using the link to communicate the promotion, you can use the following parameters: utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaigns in order to distinguish the traffic sources. If a user comes to the promotion by clicking a link that contains these parameters, the application will keep track of this information for each user that registers into the promotion, and from the administration panel you’ll be able to check the source for each participant.

The 3 fields which Easypromos allows to measure when creating customized URLs campaings are:

Campaign source (utm_source)

Use utm_source to identify a search engine, the name of a newsletter or any other source.
Example: utm_source=facebook

Campaign medium (utm_medium)

Use utm_medium to identify a medium, such as email or cost per click.
Example: utm_medium=cpc

Campaign name (utm_campaign)

Use utm_campaign to identify the promotion of a specific product or a strategic campaign.
Example: utm_campaign=summer_sales

Note: Currently the platform only supports these 3 parameters.

You can use the "Campaign links builder" tool to customize the main link for the link campaigns of the promotion. You will find it on Buzz>Link campaign.

You can build a customized campaign link filling the fields and copying the link below:

3. How to obtain the source information of the participants

The information about the sources of the participants through customized link campaigns is only available in Easypromos Premium and White Label versions.

For each participant administrators will be able to obtain the following information, available in the list with the participants of the promotion:

  • Campaign: if the promotion link includes utm parameters with which to measure the source, these will be displayed in this section, with the format utm_source | utm_medium | utm_campaign.
  • Referral: the source address and domain name from which the user clicked on the promotion link.

Note: This information about the direction origin, such as the parameters utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, is available in the Excel of participants, which can be downloaded from the list of entrants on the administration panel.

4. Preestablished parameters of the Easypromos platform

There are some utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign which are predefined by the platform. This way you can find users that have some of the following values as a campaign:
