Tutorial: User identification

The administrator has two ways of uniquely identifying the promotion participants:

1. Via a Facebook account

2. Via an email address

Below we explain how participant identification works with each of these two methods.

1. Via a Facebook account

In order to take part, the user must log in to Facebook and accept the permissions of the application. This means that when users participate they must connect their Facebook account, and, if it’s their first time interacting with the application, they will also be asked to accept the permissions of the application so that their account can be uniquely identified.

In this way, identification of the user is carried out through Facebook by way of the permissions system. This guarantees that only those users who have a valid Facebook account can register for, and participate in, the promotion.

To enable compulsory Facebook login, follow these steps:

1. Access the promotion management page and click on ‘Editor’ to access the setup options:

2. Proceed to the ‘SETTINGS > Sign-in. Here you should ensure that you have marked the options 'Show automatically the social network signin window when registering?' and ‘Do you want to be mandatory for users to connect on Facebook?’:

2. Via an email address

In order to take part in a promotion it won’t be necessary for the user to be connected via Facebook. In this case, the ‘Email’ field in the users’ registration form should be enabled so that each user can register a unique email address which can then be used to carry out user identification.

Note: in the case of enabling multiple participations, the user can use the same email address to register each time.

Tip: If you choose not to make it compulsory for users to sign in to Facebook you can enable the option 'Show automatically the social network signin window when registering?'. This means that if the user so desires, he or she can log in to his or her Facebook account to take part in the promotion. In other words, the Facebook log in is totally optional. Registration via Facebook is quicker for the user because the following fields of the registration form will come pre-completed with information from the user’s Facebook account:

  • Name
  • Surname
  • Email
